Smith’s handheld Mower Blade Sharpener is the perfect tool to use for keeping your mower blades in prime condition. This simple and easy to use sharpener uses a preset carbide blade to quickly put a smooth, sharp edge on your mower blade in just minutes. It has a durable plastic head, oversized handle, and a large finger guard for safe and secure sharpening at all times. It also comes with a wire-bristled cleaning brush that stores conveniently in the product handle.

  • Quickly sharpens a dull mower blade with just a few easy pulls
  • Durable head for easier sharpening
  • Cleaning brush with wire bristles store in handle
  • Oversized handle allows for use with gloves
  • Large safety guard
  • Replaceable carbide blade

NOTE: Most mower blades are only beveled on one side of the blade. Only sharpen the side of the blade with the bevel. This sharpener is NOT designed to put an edge on a blade with no initial bevel. It is for maintaining sharpness and edge quality of existing bevels only.

CAUTION: Always wear heavy gloves and eye protection when cleaning or sharpening a blade with this product.

1. Remove your mower blade(s) from your mower, then secure the blade by placing it in a vise with the cutting edge exposed.

2. Clean the edge of your blade using the wire brush if needed. To remove brush, press on end of brush closest to sharpening head to raise opposite end, then grasp handle and remove from cavity.

CAUTION: Always push the brush across and away from the cutting edge when cleaning your blade. To replace brush after use, insert bristles of brush into cavity first, then slide forward and push down until brush is fully inset in handle.

3. Position the head of the sharpener over one end of the cutting edge, then lower the unit down so that the cutting edge is resting in the bottom of the V-shaped slot. Make sure the angled carbide blade in the V-shaped slot is aligned with the beveled side of the mower blade.

4. While holding the sharpener as parallel to the cutting edge as possible, apply moderate downward pressure and pull the sharpener over the cutting edge from one end to the other. Maintain constant pressure and follow the contour of the blade as you pull.

CAUTION: Always keep all fingers behind the finger guard and never place free hand on top of the sharpener during use.

5. The first time you sharpen a ground edge with this sharpener or if you are sharpening a damaged edge, repeat this action approximately 15 – 20 pulls, always pulling from one end to the other (never back and forth). Additional pulls may be required if the blade is made of very hard steel. If re-sharpening an edge that has previously been sharpened with this sharpener and is NOT damaged, it should only take approximately 10 – 15 pulls to restore sharpness. Again, additional pulls may be required if the blade is made of very hard steel.

NOTE: When the carbide blade in the head of the sharpener stops removing metal from the blade, it should be replaced. Contact Smith’s for a replacement blade.
